About IRRI
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will contribute to the implementation of research activities of the new OneCGIAR Harnessing Gender and Social Equality for Resilience in Agri-food Systems (HER+) Initiative in India/ Asia. The first business cycle of HER+ extends from April 2022 to March 2025. The Senior Scientist will coordinate and lead the activities of work package 2 in Asia, which focuses on socio-technical innovation bundling (STIBs) for women’s resilience and empowerment in the context of climate change. The research focuses on developing, testing and evaluating context-specific STIBs in selected learning labs; Designing and testing pathways and processes for enhanced uptake of STIBs by women and; developing a toolbox with guidance for designing, implementing and evaluating STIBs. The senior associate scientist will closely with the Senior scientist and work package team across Asia and Africa, contributing to designing, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Work Package in Asia. This position will support partnership management in Asia.
This position will be based at the IRRI India Office in Odisha and may only be filled in by the permanent citizens of India.

Masters in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Feminist Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Institutional Economics, Geography or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
or
PhD in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Feminist Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Institutional Economics, Geography or related field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
